In this extended conversation with Editor in Chief Michael R. Peres and Contemporary Issues Editor J. Tomas Lopez we discuss the newly published Focal Encyclopedia of Photography, 4th Edition. Wondering what the role of a printed reference is in the age of Google, or just how one begins the incredibly daunting task of editing an encyclopedia? Most writers can barely fact check their own diaries, so imagine the challenge of editing the follow-up to one of the most respected references in the field. As this interview reveals, Professor Peres and Professor Lopez were clearly up to the task! The new edition is completely updated to the present, features color printing and high production values, and represents a major achievement in photographic publishing.
