There are a number of well-thought out cases and keyboards for the iPad, but fewer that work with both the Samsung 10.1 Tab and the iPad. The new Logitech Keyboard Case employ ZAGG design, and is a standout. The keyboard is solid with a great tactile feel. Its keys can be customized for either the Tab or iPad, and it has a built-in rechargeable battery, plus a slot to hold the tablet upright for viewing. It even charges over USB. The total package is wrapped inside a lightweight, aluminum case serving as a sort of tray into which the tablet can be placed face down into a nest of high-density padding, protecting the screen in the process.
It sets up like any typical Bluetooth device: turn it on, hit the "discover" button, and pair to your tablet. No muss no fuss. When we tested it, each of the Android-specific keys worked as expected and the key feel was better than many other products we've seen. When you’re finished working, just turn off the tablet and keyboard and place the tablet face down onto the tray-like unit. It is engineered to very tight standards so that a tablet will fit in firmly and doesn’t fall out, with just enough clearance to prevent the keys from touching the screen. On a recent long-distance trip, I discovered that I could rely on the keyboard as a solid protective case for my tablet. It also served as a quick and efficient way to speed up my writing process, and my typing. Logitech states that it is made from aircraft-grade aluminum - its fit and finish are first-rate, making it as strong as it is elegant.
This unit fills a need for Samsung Tab users, as it is the only keyboard that I have yet seen that is specifically designed for that model. It only works with the Wi-Fi-only Samsung model, so if you have the 4G model, you’ll be out of luck. We tested the iPad version as well, and it worked similarly to the Tab model - without a hitch. On a recent set of long-distance flights I discovered just how popular the unit is, as many of my fellow travelers had them and all had positive comments. So, on the road or at home, we think you can’t go wrong with the Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard Case. When it comes to typing, tablets are dandy, but keyboards are quicker!
