Stay Safe from Variants with Mac Edition Radio!

In Part One of our review of the HIFIMAN Jade II Electrostatic Headphones, we began by describing the headphones, amplifier, and power supply. In Part Two, we explored the headphones in terms of interconnects, in particular the True Balanced™ Premier SE Analog Interconnects by Pangea Audio, and some tips on achieving the best fit and performance, using Dekoni Audio Nuggets. In Part Three, we listen to them, and explore their sound and musicality. Using some first-rate DAC/Amplifier hardware from Mytek, Oppo, & EarMan, we start with the brilliant new album from  Fiona Apple – “Fetch The Bolt Cutters” on Qobuz, and see how the Jade IIs measure up.

One of the admittedly small positives is that the "stay at home" orders that many of us are under, have wholly removed any excuse not to get things done around the apartment or house. Many folks I know are cleaning up their homes and putting things in order. However, this is Mac Edition Radio, so John Mulhern III writes about things we can do with technology that we may have put off for way too long.

It's one week after CES 2020 ended—and John Mulhern III believes he's got somewhat of a handle on what mattered at this year's huge show. He returns with eight quick observations from Las Vegas, ranging from Sony's Vision-S concept car (!) to Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Fold notebook.

With only a week to go until it begins, John Mulhern III's attention is now solidly on CES 2020 in early/mid January, and he writes about nine areas he's watching at the Consumer Technology Association's massive annual trade show in Las Vegas.

We found some wonderful stocking stuffers for the best of class headphones and earphones for 2019. All are wonderful products, and in the case of the Audio-Technica ATH-ADX5000 dynamic headphones, the HIFIMAN Jade II Electrostatic Headphones, and the HELM Audio True Wireless 5 Bluetooth earphones, all are notable for a variety of reasons, but the one thing they have in common is superlative sound. Add in Qobuz and the Mytek Brooklyn DAC+, and you have a very happy audiophile holiday season.

We’ve been dedicated SleepPhones® aficionados for a few years now, making them a part of our nightly bedtime routine. The original version of the comfy headband with small, slim-profile speakers inside can be plugged into or paired with personal devices or smart speakers to provide whatever sound the listener prefers to hear while falling off to dreamland. So when we had the opportunity to check out their new SleepPhones® ASMR Edition, we sleepily jumped at the chance. See how they can help guide you toward better rest or relaxation.

From John Mulhern III's perspective, the end of 2019 is a time to re-examine technology categories that have quietly improved over the last few years.

He's got four suggestions for investigation of potential upgrades in this holiday season: multi-function printers, noise-cancelling headphones, mesh networks, and considering a new iPad.
