Stay Safe from Variants with Mac Edition Radio!

The competition within the point-and-shoot camera market is as intense as any consumer battle you can find. From cameras that cost as little as $30 to advanced models costing 30 times that much, selection isn't a problem. One difference among today’s cameras is that newer models offer professional features and capabilities, including the ability to shoot in low light with faster lenses, and in the RAW format. The Olympus Z-X1 camera is one of the prime players in this field. Don’t want the size and bulk of an Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens (EVIL) model such as the Olympus Micro 4/3 models, but still want the capabilities? We took a serious look at the Olympus XZ-1 to find out how it fared. Read our review for our experience. The Olympus XZ-1 is a Mac Edition Radio Holiday Pick!

Dropped calls are a constant annoyance and fact of our cell phone lives, but what can you do if those calls keep getting dropped even when you're at work or home? We have tried cell phone cases that claim to have "cell boosters" inside, but they didn't seem to make much of a difference. Another approach is to use a specialized amplifier and antenna to strengthen the signal. We tested the zBoost -YX540 Metro and YX545 SOHO Cell Phone Signal Boosters to see if our constantly dropped calls would come to a welcome end. The YX540 Metro and YX545 SOHO Cell Phone Signal Boosters are Mac Edition Radio Holiday Picks!

With the global attention accorded the passing of Steve Jobs in October it might seem that nothing additional could be said. At least that is what I thought until I was offered the chance to view a rough cut of a video based on an interview that Robert Cringely (aka Mark Stephens) did with Steve Jobs for Cringely's documentary, "Triumph of the Nerds: The Rise of Accidental Empires," an epic PBS miniseries about the founding of the personal computer industry. This week you can view this video for yourself. Is it worth an hour of your time? Read on for the full review! Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview is a Mac Edition Radio Holiday Pick!

When picturing Las Vegas, you might imagine nightlife, casinos, and free-flowing fun. Our goal there was slightly different from that of the average Vegas-goer: to sit in a darkened room with hundreds of like-minded folks who are passionate about digital photography, design, and Photoshop and report on our experience at the National Association of Photoshop Professional's annual Photoshop World conference. Held each September at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, the annual gathering is billed as "The Must Attend Conference for Photographers and Photoshop Users." Does it live up to its billing? Is it a good roll of the dice? Read on to discover our conclusions!

[Editor's Note: As indicated in the first part of this review, Coleman went to sleep one night in mid-May with Time Machine restoring his apps and data to a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB Hybrid SSD 7200rpm hard drive that he'd just installed himself in his MacBook Pro. His story continues.]

Coleman's Law: Media content expands to fit the storage space available. One consequence: Almost inevitably, you'll outgrow your hard drive. Having tripled my drive's capacity, I don't expect to run out of room again before retiring my mid-2007 MacBook Pro. But, having succeeded in replacing my own drive, I've eliminated the fear factor from the prospect of doing so once more if necessary.
